It is my pleasure to welcome you to the St. Vincent Sports Medicine fellowship website. Our fellowship has been years in the making. It is housed within our Family Medicine program, one of the original Family Medicine programs established in the 1970s. It has long been our faculty’s dream to provide outstanding musculoskeletal training for primary care physicians who are passionate about sports medicine. We knew we had an incredible environment of care with exceptional educational and clinical opportunities. In 2011, St. Vincent Family Medicine Sports Performance faculty finalized the fellowship plans and it is now reality! We received full ACGME accreditation prior to the start of the fellowship in July 2012.
St. Vincent Sports Performance provides an extraordinary educational environment that includes state-of-the-art sports performance facilities, outstanding clinical faculty and athletic team partnerships that span the spectrum from amateur to elite.
Our team partnerships include:
- Multiple middle and high schools (Carmel, Chatard, Park Tudor, Pike, Roncalli, Scecina, Theodore Guerin, University, Westfield, Zionsville and more)
- Butler University (Division 1)
- Marian University (NAIA)
- Indiana Fever (WNBA)
- 4 USOC National Governing Bodies including USA Diving, USA Gymnastics, USA Track and Field, USA Synchronized Swimming
- Indiana Sports Corporation (Big Ten Basketball Championships, Big Ten Football Championships)
Our fellows cover high school and collegiate teams. In addition, they help provide medical support for the Carmel Marathon and Geist Half Marathon. Fellows see patients at the St. Vincent Sports Performance Center, a unique facility where providers live out the core values of reverence, wisdom, creativity, integrity, dedication, and service of the poor. Our culture is that of putting the athlete first and working together as a team in providing the highest quality care. Our program philosophy is to “Define Sports Performance” medical care for our partners, including teams and learners.
Our faculty includes many distinguished, experienced sports physicians, musculoskeletal radiologists, cardiologists, pharmacologists and orthopedic surgeons. In addition, a sports psychologist, sports neuropsychologist, and sports dietitian are on site in our sports performance center! Our fellows experience incredible training opportunities as a result.
Our clinical sports performance faculty is skilled in multiple procedures including musculoskeletal ultrasound, PRP, compartment pressure testing, selective functional movement assessment (SFMA), VO2 max testing, vocal cord dysfunction testing with videostroboscopy, lactate threshold testing and more.
Indianapolis is an incredibly sports crazy town and we are proud to be part of what makes Indianapolis great! I encourage you to browse our website and call us to find out how St. Vincent is "Defining Sports Performance Education."
