My true passion in medicine has always been in primary care, and especially within the unique relationship that family physicians are able to develop with their patients over a lifetime of care. I feel that the IM/FM program at St. Vincent offers me the best opportunity to grow professionally, personally, and spiritually to become both a competent and compassionate physician. The extraordinary combination of breadth and depth in medical care fits well with my goals of practicing full-spectrum family medicine in a rural community (which, by virtue of growing up on a dairy farm in western Iowa, is a given). I feel the extra training in caring for patients with complex medical issues in both the inpatient and outpatient settings will allow me to better serve my patients both in residency and in my future practice.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our daughter, being active in our church, and being involved in anything and everything related to agriculture.

I was drawn to family medicine because of the wide variety of patients and pathology, and the opportunity to build lifelong relationships with patients and their families. Wanting more experience managing more complicated medical conditions in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, I felt the added training of the IM/FM program met my professional goals perfectly. After being fortunate enough to complete several rotations at St. Vincent’s during medical school, I felt that it would be an ideal place for residency because of the great learning opportunities, the unique IM/FM program, and most of all the people. The Christian values espoused by the hospital were evident in the respect and family environment that pervade the program. I look forward to completing my four years here and hopefully practicing full-spectrum family medicine in small town Indiana.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy reading (sci-fi and fantasy literature being my guilty pleasures), hiking, and being involved in my local church.
