St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital is piloting a program using telemedicine, the use of IT and telecommunication technology to monitor patients' daily blood pressure, weight and oxygen saturation and to reduce readmissions. Dr. Alan Snell, chief medical informatics officer, said 80 patients with congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were enrolled in the study during the first year, with only two patients being readmitted in their 30-day follow-up period.
