St.Vincent Health and The Barrington of Carmel First in Greater Indianapolis Area to Integrate Healthcare into Senior Living Community

Carmel Mayor announces more than 340 new jobs and millions of dollars of economic spending

CARMEL, IND – Today, City of Carmel Mayor, Jim Brainard, joined officials from St.Vincent Health and The Barrington of Carmel, a new senior living community, to announce a one-of-a-kind partnership.

The Barrington of Carmel, a life care community expected to open in 2013, will be the only senior living community to provide residents with quality healthcare at set, monthly payments, provided by well-trusted St.Vincent Health clinicians. St.Vincent is home to the Center for Healthy Aging, which focuses on helping Indiana residents age well.

“The Center for Healthy Aging is a statewide leader in geriatric services, with more than 20 years of service to aging adults,” said Kim Jule, executive director for St.Vincent Center for Healthy Aging, Private Duty, Hospice and Home Care.

Future residents of The Barrington will not only have access one of the state’s largest healthcare providers, but also beautifully-designed homes with custom features and amenities.

“The Barrington of Carmel and St.Vincent Health share many important philosophies and approaches when it comes to serving Indiana residents,” said Raymond Goodman, CEO and board chairman of Mayflower Communities Inc., the nonprofit developer of the senior living community. “Both organizations are jointly committed to providing educational tools, informational resources and top-quality healthcare services to Carmel-area residents.”

This 18-acre, 320,000 square-foot community is currently being developed at 116th Street on Guilford Road, and will include 134 independent living, 56 assisted living, 26 dedicated memory support and 48 skilled nursing care residences.

“The development of The Barrington in Hamilton County will substantially benefit the economy, creating job opportunities and increasing economic spending,” said Mayor Brainard.

Local job opportunities for contractors and subcontractors, with as many as 200 skilled craftsmen and tradespeople, will be employed during the construction of this community. Upon completion, approximately 140 full-time employees, with a projected annual payroll and benefits exceeding $6 million, will be hired. These positions include industry-related professionals in areas of hospitality, healthcare, administration, food service and maintenance.

In addition, the Barrington of Carmel, when in operation, will purchase approximately $2 million of goods and services annually from local businesses. To-date, The Barrington of Carmel has already invested in excess of $10 million in preparation for construction.

The partnership with The Barrington of Carmel is another extension of St.Vincent Health’s ongoing commitment to Carmel residents. With services including women’s, emergency, bariatric and joint replacement services, the faith-based health system continues to serve the growing Hamilton County.
