St.Vincent Unveils a New Ambulance for Pregnant Women Experiencing Complications During Labor
INDIANAPOLIS - St.Vincent Women’s Hospital officials celebrated one year of ground and air maternal-fetal (mother and fetus) ambulance transport services and unveiled a new maternal-fetal ambulance. Seconds count when a woman is experiencing complications during labor at a hospital and needs to be transferred to St.Vincent Women’s Hospital for highly specialized care. The faith based hospital is the only hospital in Indiana to offer both ground and air ambulance intra hospital transfers for patients.
The new ambulance, resembling the green St.Vincent Stat Ground ambulances, will serve as a maternal-fetal ambulance. The truck can also be used as a neonatal intensive care ambulance. The ambulance will be staffed by a multidisciplinary team of perinatal specialists and supervised by a maternal-fetal medicine physician. The ground maternal-fetal ambulances and aircraft are equipped with electronic fetal monitors.
Since August 2010, there have been 188 ground ambulance transports and 27 air ambulance transports. The ambulance team arrives at the patient’s bedside on average ten minutes before local EMS.
St.Vincent Women’s Hospital is the only hospital in Indiana where highly specialized care is provided under the same roof for both mom and baby. The team of expert physicians – including maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology, and pediatric sub-specialists – work together to deliver a comprehensive continuum of care for moms and babies. The faith-based hospital also offers Indiana’s largest team of board-certified maternal-fetal medicine specialists who provide continuous care 24/7 in the High-Risk Obstetrical Unit.
