Dr. Fogel

INDIANAPOLIS –

Richard Fogel, MD, FHRS, cardiologist and electrophysiologist at St.Vincent Heart Center and chief executive officer of St.Vincent Medical Group, has been named the 2014-2015 president of the Heart Rhythm Society.

The Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) is the international leader in science, education and advocacy for cardiac arrhythmia professionals and patients, and the primary information resource on heart rhythm disorders. Founded in 1979, HRS represents more than 5,300 specialists in cardiac pacing and electrophysiology. Electrophysiology is a specialty of cardiology. HRS’ members perform electrophysiology studies and curative catheter ablations to diagnose, treat and prevent cardiac arrhythmias. Electrophysiologists also implant pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) and cardiac resynchronization devices in patients who are indicated for these life-saving devices.

Prior to becoming president of the Heart Rhythm Society, from 2008-2011 he served as the Chair of the Health Policy Committee and member of the HRS Board of Trustees. In 2010, he was elected second vice president of the Society. In 2013 he served as the Program Chair of the 34th Annual Scientific Sessions of the Heart Rhythm Society in Denver hosting more than 10,000 U.S. and international cardiac arrhythmia professionals.

Dr. Fogel joined Northside Cardiology in 1994, one of the founding members of The Care Group – a private cardiology and primary care practice in Indianapolis – as a clinical electrophysiologist. He was elected to The Care Group Board of Managers in 1998. Dr. Fogel was instrumental in the development and opening of St.Vincent Heart Center and was elected as its inaugural chairman of the board in 2002. In 2005, he was elected board vice chair and chair of the Finance Committee. Dr. Fogel was appointed managing partner and CEO of The Care Group in 2008 and he held this position until The Care Group was acquired by St.Vincent Health in July 2010.
