WIBC 93.1 FM – A high-ranking Food and Drug Administration official recently announced the federal agency intends to propose regulation on electronic cigarettes that would govern how and where the popular devices can be sold. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that there has been a 50 percent increase in the number of middle and high school students who used e-cigarettes in 2012 compared to 2011. Of the estimated 1.78 million school-age youth who used the nicotine-delivery product in 2012, about 160,000 had never smoked a traditional cigarette. Ninety percent of current adult smokers began the habit by age 18, according to the CDC.
