Radiation Therapy
The Cancer Center provides radiation treatment therapy from experienced professionals, using state-of-the-art equipment. The radiation oncologist uses a treatment planning system computer and a CT treatment simulator to plan individualized treatments.
IMRT
Intensity Modulation Radiation Therapy (IMRT) delivers higher doses of radiation only to the tumor tissue, and spares the surrounding normal tissue.
MammoSite and SAVI
Accelerated, partial breast irradiation uses MammoSite and SAVI. These treatments allow breast cancer patients to receive treatment twice a day for five days, instead of the traditional 30+ days.
Stereotactic Radiosurgery
Stereotactic radiosurgery is not actually a surgery, but rather a precise, targeted method of radiation therapy or radiotherapy. With this treatment, targeted radiotherapy is delivered in a single, high dose. It's an alternative to invasive surgery typically used for tumors on the brain and spine, but has other uses as well.
Stereotactic radiosurgery reduces the exposure of the surrounding highly sensitive areas to radiation. If you need radiosurgery for the brain, please visit our sister-hospital St.Vincent Oncology Center in Indianapolis.
