Maternity (Obstetrics)

Saint John’s maternity services brings together a team of maternal specialists who share the goal of enhancing local services provided to women before, during and after their pregnancy.

Birthing Center

Through our team of skilled physicians and other health professionals, Saint John’s Birthing Center provides optimum care to newborns and mothers.

Rooms

The rooms at our Birthing Facility include:

  • State-of-the-art Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) rooms. Mothers will remain in the same private room for the entire labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum experience, unless they have a C-section.
  • TV and VCR, including EdTV education access
  • Rockers, sleep chairs, and whirlpool baths

Dining

Our facility offers a comfortable dining experience, including:

  • A separate dining area for each room, where the new mother can have a special Celebration of Life meal with her partner
  • A separate birthing party for the whole family, including a birthday cake and a keepsake CD
  • Lunch and dinner is ordered from a menu and delivered to the room throughout the day. The person supporting mom can also order room service and eat with her free of charge.
  • Complimentary snack area and snack cart

Support Services

Support services include:

  • Massage therapy before or after delivery
  • Lactation consultant and breast pump rental
  • Breast-feeding Support Group meets Mondays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Free. Call 646-8117.

Nursery

Our level II nursery includes:

  • Use of Bilichek to detect jaundice in infants without taking a blood sample
  • Newborn portrait and internet gallery access for family and friends
  • Professional photography packages available

Certified Nurse-Midwives Allison Dorris, Christina Jackey, Ginny Maher, and Charlotte Meeker are now affiliated with Saint John’s Health System and are delivering babies at Saint John’s Birthing Center.

Maternal Fetal Medicine

When necessary, St.Vincent Women's Hospital in Indianapolis provides services to handle:

  • High-risk and complicated pregnancy management
  • Specialized prenatal screenings
