Speech and Language Rehabilitation
Saint John's has Madison County's only hospital-based pediatric rehabilitation program. The role of the speech pathologist (or speech therapist) is to provide evaluation and treatment to children and adults who demonstrate speech, language, cognition, voice and swallowing disorders. Following the initial evaluation, the speech pathologist works with the patient and family to create an individualized treatment plan with a strong focus on education.
Conditions Treated
Speech pathologists routinely provide treatment to children and adults with:
- Congenital birth defects
- Developmental disorders (stuttering, articulation disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder)
- Acquired disorders (stroke, traumatic brain injury, voice disorders, Parkinson's disease, and Multiple Sclerosis)
