(KOKOMO, IN) Modern Healthcare, a leading national healthcare industry news source, announced its rankings of the 2010 Best Places to Work in Healthcare at an awards dinner on October 18 in Dallas. Included in the elite top 20 percent is Kokomo-based St.Joseph Hospital, which came in at number 18 among all healthcare employers (a category that includes hospitals, insurers, suppliers and consulting groups) and ninth among all U.S. hospitals. A 167-bed acute care hospital, St.Joseph delivers comprehensive healthcare services and is a local leader in a variety of areas, including cardiology, cancer care, women’s health and wound healing.
St.Joseph Hospital president Kathy Young, MS, FACHE, was very pleased that the hospital’s hard work was recognized at a national level. “We’ve asked a lot of our team over the past couple of years,” said Young. “We’ve made patient safety and exceptional patient experiences our top priorities. The higher we set the bar, the harder our team has worked and the greater the commitment they bring to our mission. Countless visitors have told me that they feel the positive energy the minute they walk through our front door. There is something really special about St.Joseph Hospital. We are very fortunate to have an amazing community of smart, compassionate, dedicated people who have all found each other and work incredibly well together to do the right thing for our patients and our community. To have our efforts recognized and to be among the top 10 best hospitals at which to work in the country is both humbling and inspiring.”
The Best Places to Work in Healthcare award recognizes outstanding employers in the healthcare industry. The selection of the ‘best of the best’ was made after a stringent evaluation process. The program, which was open to all U.S. healthcare companies with at least 25 employees, collected information from both the employer and employees. Employers were asked to complete a lengthy survey detailing company policies, practices, benefits and demographics. Employees selected at random by Modern Healthcare were asked in-depth questions that resulted in an analysis in eight core areas: leadership and planning, culture and communications, role satisfaction, working environment, relationship with supervisor, training and development, pay and benefits and overall satisfaction.
St.Joseph Hospital was the only organization in North Central Indiana to receive a Best Places to Work in Healthcare award and was the top ranked full service hospital in Indiana. The hospital, which is part of St.Vincent Health, has also been named a Best Places To Work In Indiana for the last four years. For the last two years, St.Joseph was the top health care employer on the Indiana list.
