When You Need Emergency Care

Urgent care is not a substitute for emergency care. You should use a hospital’s emergency department for serious or life-threatening problems, such as:

• Chest pain
• Severe abdominal pain
• Shortness of breath
• Sudden severe headaches
• Loss of consciousness or seizures
• Serious injuries and wounds, including potential broken bones or amputations
• Vomiting or coughing up blood
• Severe burns
• Swallowing poison
