Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

St.Vincent Anderson Regional Women’s Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

When awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy), explained the Women’s Center manager Amy Carey.

Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that this facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

The Women’s Center is an integral part of St.Vincent Anderson Regional's breast care program, which was the first Madison County facility to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

“I am so excited and proud of the hard work of our Women’s Center staff to have earned Breast Imaging Center of Excellence accreditation from the American College of Radiology,” said Carey. “This, in conjunction with our NAPBC distinction, continues to display our ongoing dedication to providing the best possible care right here in Madison County.

“St.Vincent Anderson Regional is dedicated to providing our patients with expert breast care,” said Sandy Crawley, director of St.Vincent Anderson Regional's Cancer Center and Clinical Research Department. “We were among the first hospitals in the U.S. to provide the 5-day treatment for breast cancer.”

The Women’s Center uses state-of-the-art digital mammography to provide the most accurate imaging available for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. Accuracy of diagnosis is further increased by the use of computer aided detection, which assists radiologists in identifying areas on a mammogram that may warrant a second look.
If additional testing or treatment is required, the Women’s Center’s breast care navigator can assist with scheduling, education and support. The Women’s Center offers stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy), pre-surgical wire localization, ductography and aspirations.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
