What to Expect During Cardiac Rehabilitation
You will attend cardiac rehabilitation for an hour session three days per week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You can choose what time of day works best for you and your appointment time remains the same for all of your sessions. The duration of your program will be determined by your insurance coverage. Eighteen to thirty six sessions are typical. You will be guided through a progressive exercise program using various types of equipment. You will wear a heart monitor and the staff will monitor your heart rhythm during exercise. Throughout your program you will receive education based on your individual needs.
Your First Day
You will meet with your case manager for a one on one meeting lasting approximately one hour. He or she will interview you, review your medical history, and with your input, begin to create your individual program. You will be oriented to the exercise area and encouraged to ask any questions you may have. Exercise on the first day is minimal and usually consists of a six minute walking test. And always remember to dress comfortably.
The cardiac rehabilitation staff consists of one nurse and three exercise physiologists who have special training and expertise in cardiac diseases and exercise progression.
