Spine Health

The state-of-the-art St.Vincent Spine Center combines leading experts in neurological and orthopedic spine surgery with cutting-edge technology to offer you the best treatment form, quicker healing and returning to the activities you enjoy as quickly as possible.

The Latest Treatments

Our experienced and board-certified spine surgeons actively participate in education and research activities to bring the best in the treatment of spine disorders to our patients.
Over the last decade, our spine surgeons have designed and developed Intra-operative Spinal Navigation, a GPS system for the spine that allows the surgeon to operate more efficiently, effectively, safely and less invasively. In addition, we provide comprehensive interoperative monitoring of the spine.

Minimally Invasive for Maximum Benefit

Many of the spine surgeries performed at the Spine Center are minimally invasive procedures, which generally result in faster recovery times.

Both patients and surgeons prefer minimally invasive procedures when appropriate because these procedures mean:

  • Less trauma to the body, including less scarring
  • Less post-operative pain
  • Decreased incidence of wound infections and other complications
  • Shorter hospital stays and lower costs
  • Faster healing, which means a quicker return to doing the things you enjoy

Preparing for Surgery

If your physician determines that your spine surgery or condition requires surgery, you will be referred to the St.Vincent Spine Center Surgery Evaluation Center (SEC). The Surgery Evaluation Center is where all your pre-operative testing – chest X-rays, EKGs, blood tests, physical exams – will be done.

Results from the preoperative testing are entered directly into your chart, which is readily available for your physician to refer to as necessary. Your surgeon will receive notification of any concerns that may arise so that he or she can determine whether your surgery can take place as scheduled.

On the day of your surgery, you’ll return to the St.Vincent Spine Center, where the registration process will be quick and easy, thanks to pre-registration that is done by phone several days before your surgery date.

Your procedure will be performed in one of our state-of-the-art surgical suites, built to allow surgeons to teleconference with other specialists when necessary, at the St.Vincent Spine Center on the St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital campus.

St.Vincent Spine Center has earned the Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification for spine surgery. The Joint Commission is the nation’s premier healthcare accreditation entity.
