Injury Needs

Spine injuries and conditions can be painful and inconvenient. Getting treatment for them should not be.

Whether you are seeking relief from chronic pain associated with aging joints, need care for a sports-related injury, or have been injured in an accident, you want expert treatment that will get you back to living life as quickly as possible. That’s our goal, too.

St.Vincent provides specialized services for children and adults in the following areas:

Athletes’ Needs

Whether you play basketball, pound the pavement for marathon runs, or have a mean overhand tennis serve, one thing’s for certain - you don’t want to be sidelined with an injury.

But, injuries do happen. And when they do, our Orthopedic Center has a team of sports medicine physicians ready to help you get back in the game. In fact, St. Vincent offers the largest hospital-based sports medicine program in Indiana.

Our sports medicine physicians evaluate and treat athletes from student athletes to weekend warriors to professionals. Over 40 professional teams, universities, junior and senior high schools, clubs and organizations turn to us for our expertise in assessing and treating sports-related injuries. Check out our Sports Medicine/Sports Performance Program.

Children’s Needs

At birth, we have about 130 bones in our body. By adulthood, some have fused together, and we have 206 bones. Sometimes, these bones need specialized care. St.Vincent orthopedic specialists provide comprehensive care of injuries and bone disorders for adults and children.

St.Vincent pediatric orthopedic specialists care for children through age 21 and treat fractures, spinal deformities like scoliosis, pediatric sports injuries, dislocated joints, neuromuscular diseases, such as cerebral palsy and spinal bifida, and foot deformities like club foot.

Almost half of new child visits to our pediatric orthopedic specialists are a result of a broken bone due to a fall—wrists are the most common injury.

The good news for children is that they heal almost twice as quickly as adults. One reason is that with the growth plates still open, their bones are covered by a thick lining that helps things heal quickly. Experts say for good bone health, children need to be active and exercise regularly.

If your child is injured, call your pediatrician. They can refer you to an orthopedic specialist, who will x-ray the injured area and provide treatment. During an emergency, visit the Emergency Room at the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent.

Joint Commission Certifications

The Joint Commission Gold SealThe St.Vincent Total Joint Replacement Center and St.Vincent Spine Center have earned the Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification for joint replacement and spine surgery, respectively. The Joint Commission is the nation’s premier healthcare accreditation entity.

St.Vincent Orthopedic Center is the only facility in Indiana to be recognized for its hip and knee replacement program. This marks the third time that the comprehensive Orthopedic Center earned the Joint Commission two-year certification. Along with earning top state honors, the St.Vincent Spine Center is the only facility in the Midwest to be granted the spine accreditation.
