24th Annual Conference on Aging

Goal Centered Care
March 15, 2013

The 2013 Center for Healthy Aging conference carries on the tradition of providing up-to-date information in geriatric care. We strive to stimulate discussion on ways in which to provide optimum care in the future. We have an exciting day planned, with most notably a panel discussion on how changes in our health care system might possibly affect our care of older adults. We will hear the thoughts of a public health policy expert, a lawyer with expertise in health care, a hospital administrator, and an ethicist. The diversity should provide for some thought provoking discussion.

Because geriatric care is multidisciplinary our other speakers are from various health-related fields. We will hear about novel approaches for caring for our patients with dementia from some of these very specialists. We will also consider the importance of goal oriented care, frailty, and offering care for such situations as dental needs, disequilibrium, exercise, Norovirus, and ethical decisions regarding driving.

This conference is meant to enhance the knowledge base and skills of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, dietitians, allied health and rehabilitation therapists, social workers, health facility administrators, and other interested health care professionals

Objectives:

*Discuss ways in which changes in health care funding may affect care of older adults.
*Identify novel approaches to care of dementia patients.
*Explore options for treating frail older adults.
