Diagnostic Ultrasound

Ultrasound

In this procedure, a machine is used to produce sound waves that are transmitted through a hand-held transducer into the body. The sound waves are reflected and returned to the transducer and captured to produce images. Ultrasound technologist performs these studies. Areas imaged include:

  • Thyroid, thyroid biopsies
  • Abdomen (pancreas, liver, aorta, gallbladder, spleen and kidneys)
  • Uterus and ovaries
  • Breast, breast biopsies
  • OB

Vascular Ultrasound/Echocardiology

In this procedure, a machine is used to produce sound waves that are transmitted through a hand-held transducer into the body. The sound waves are reflected and returned to the transducer and captured to produce images. A Licensed/Certified Vascular Ultrasound technologist/echocardiographer performs these studies.

Vascular ultrasounds can detect circulation problems in the neck, upper and lower extremities, as well as heart problems. Areas imaged include:

  • Peripheral arteries and veins
  • Carotid /vertebral arteries
  • Evaluation for DVT (deep venous thrombosis)
  • Echocardiograms (evaluation of the heart) for ages 13 and up
