Weight Management for Kids
Lifetime Individual Fitness Eating (L.I.F.E.) Program
Obesity among children has become a national epidemic, particularly in Indiana where estimates of childhood obesity are between 20 and 40%. Life-threatening conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes are also increasing among this population.
L.I.F.E. for Kids is a yearlong weight management program especially designed for children and adolescents. This program was introduced in 2007 to promote healthy eating and physical activity/exercise through integrated education and counseling from a multidisciplinary team that includes a:
- Physician
- Dietitian
- Behavior therapist
- Exercise physiologist
- Registered nurse
The program works closely with the Primary Care Center to ensure that low-income families whose children are at risk for obesity are able to access the program.
