Transplant
For patients, an organ transplant is a tremendously emotional experience. They need skilled surgeons, but they need something more. They need physicians who are trained in the art of caring as well as medicine.
At St.Vincent, the goal of every transplantation is simple: Getting the patient back to living a healthy, normal life as quickly as possible. Accomplishing that goal requires a transplant team that is committed to post-operative care.
The St.Vincent staff understands the needs of recovering transplant patients. They’ll receive therapy, counseling, and other services designed to ensure a smooth and speedy recovery.
St.Vincent Transplant Services exists to provide more compassionate transplant care to a greater number of patients. Our goal is to meet the unique medical and mental needs of every individual under our care. Our purpose is to extend and improve lives. We heal not only patients’ organs, but also their bodies, minds and spirits.

Kidney transplant procedures are performed at St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital. The St.Vincent Renal Transplant program was created to address the growing – and too often unmet – need for kidney transplantation through world-class care.
St.Vincent Transplant Services is comprised of highly experienced surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, dietitians and other caregivers that provide comprehensive care – from groundbreaking surgical techniques to therapy, counseling and other services designed to ensure a smooth and speedy recovery for all our patients.
Our team is committed to the "Spirit of Caring," assuring that each patient will receive the emotional support and medical attention they need before, during and after their procedure.
Pancreas transplant procedures are performed at St.Vincent Transplant Services located within St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital. A pancreas transplant – frequently in conjunction with a kidney transplant – can give individuals with Type I diabetes an opportunity undergo a vast improvement in their health and quality of life.
Although a successful pancreas transplant won’t cure Type I diabetes, it will greatly diminish its impact. The placement of healthy insulin producing cells from a donor pancreas by the St.Vincent Transplant team can greatly reduce and even eliminate some of the complications frequently associated with Type I diabetes.
A successful transplant eliminates the need for insulin injections and diet and activity restrictions – giving the transplant recipient a chance to live a life uninhibited by the rigorous demands of severe Type I diabetes.
At St.Vincent, people who need both a kidney and pancreas transplant will receive both from the same surgical team, creating a continuum of care that’s ideal for such procedures.
