Safe Sleeping – The Basics
Here are a few bedtime basics to keep your baby safe and

Place your baby on her back with nothing around her that could block the flow of fresh
air. This is the only sleep position recommended for babies. Side and stomach
positions are not safe alternatives.
Consider Sleepers Rather than Blankets
To keep your baby warm and safe during sleep, use sleepers
with feet, sleep “sacks” or other type of wearable blanket, rather than blankets.
Avoid letting the baby get too hot. Overheating is a leading risk factor for
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Your baby could be too hot if you notice
sweating, damp hair, flushed cheeks, heat rash, and/or rapid breathing. Set the
room temperature in a range that is comfortable for a lightly clothed adult.
Remove Soft and Fluffy Items
Anything loose, soft or fluffy in your baby’s sleep area can
be dangerous. Remove pillows, blankets, bumpers, stuffed toys and other soft
objects from your baby’s sleep area when placing them down to sleep.
Consider a Pacifier
Pacifiers can further reduce the risk of SIDS. Experts
recommend giving your baby a pacifier every time you place them down to sleep.
Educate Your Caregivers
