Pastoral Care
As a faith-based hospital ministry, St.Vincent addresses the spiritual needs of patients and their families by providing pastoral care services. Chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support to patients and their families, associates, volunteers and the medical staff, as well as outreach to the community.
The pastoral care staff endeavors:
- To witness in a ministry of presence
- To accept and promote the individual's freedom with respect to religious beliefs and practices
- To promote and encourage the holistic practice of health care (mind, body, and spirit)
- To affirm the natural process of grief and assist in this process
The Spirit of Caring at Work
Patients are welcome to invite their priest, minister or rabbi to visit at any time. With the permission of the patient or family, a patient's spiritual leader will be notified of the patient's admission to the hospital.
St.Vincent Women’s Hospital also offers a support group for families who have suffered miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death. This group meets the first Thursday night of every month and provides one-on-one follow-up. The December meeting is a Candlelight Memorial Service, attended by many families from years past.
