St.Vincent Health Breaks Ground on New Medical Center

New Facility Will Include Indiana’s First Freestanding Emergency Department

FISHERS, IN – September 26, 2007, St.Vincent Health broke ground for its new Medical Center, located at 13914 E. State Route 238 at the intersection of 238 and Olio Road.  The groundbreaking ceremony included St.Vincent Health associates from the Indianapolis, Carmel and Anderson hospitals, BremnerDuke Healthcare Real Estate representatives, and public officials from Fishers and Noblesville.

The 120,000 square-foot outpatient development will serve patients from the growing Fishers, Noblesville, Carmel and southwestern Madison County markets.  St.Vincent Medical Center Northeast will include an ambulatory surgery center, a medical office building and Indiana’s first freestanding emergency department.

“We have been a partner to Hamilton and Madison counties for decades, and will now expand our outpatient services to continue to meet the growing health care demands of these communities,” said Vincent C. Caponi, CEO of St.Vincent Health.  “With full-service hospital capabilities in Carmel and Anderson, the St.Vincent Medical Center Northeast will serve as an accessible state-of-the-art outpatient setting for patients needing emergency and convenient quality care.”

In 2006, St.Vincent Health purchased 26.6 acres on the northeast corner of Olio Road and State Road 238 in Fishers with plans to provide primary and specialty care for the community, and supplement the health care services at St.Vincent Indianapolis, St.Vincent Carmel and Saint John’s Health System.

The 17-hospital system has since partnered with BremnerDuke Healthcare to construct a 15-bed freestanding emergency department, which will screen and stabilize adult and pediatric patients, be staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and house a helipad for air medical transportation by DoveFlight.  The faith-based institution also aligned with several area ambulance providers to design the emergency department.

St.Vincent Health will collaborate with surgeons to build an ambulatory surgery center, and a medical office building that will include a sleep center with adult and pediatric rooms, primary care, pediatric, women’s, rehabilitation, mental health and older adult services.  Digital diagnostic imaging capabilities such as MRI, CT scanners, ultrasound and X-rays will be available, along with laboratory services.

St.Vincent Medical Center Northeast is expected to open in the fall of 2008.

“We are pleased to be a part of St.Vincent Medical Center Northeast’s newest development in this growing northeast suburb of Indianapolis,” said Jim Bremner, president of BremnerDuke Healthcare.  “This groundbreaking event marks a new era for Central Indiana residents.  They will have easier access to quality St.Vincent health care at this dynamic location along Exit 10 on I-69.”

Over the next five years, the town of Fishers is estimated to see a 29 percent population growth, while Noblesville is projected at 18 percent with a total population of more than 61,000.  It is also anticipated that the Pendleton market will have an increase in residential developments over the next several years.

Along with St.Vincent Medical Center Northeast, St.Vincent Health offers pediatric care, family practice and internal medicine at various primary care locations throughout Hamilton and Madison counties.  The health care provider has served these communities for more than 20 years.

More than 35,000 patient visits are projected within the first year of operation for the  $42 million outpatient development.
