St.Vincent Health on Capitol Hill to Advocate for Healthcare Access and Coverage

INDIANAPOLIS – On April 29, leadership from St.Vincent Health joined more than 60 colleagues from Ascension Health hospitals around the country on a visit to Capitol Hill to advocate for 100% access to healthcare and 100% coverage.  Currently, approximately 560,000 Hoosiers lack adequate health insurance in Indiana.

St.Vincent Health is a member of Ascension Health, the nation's largest Catholic and largest nonprofit healthcare system.  Consistent with a systemwide commitment to achieve 100% access to healthcare and 100% coverage, Ascension Health is encouraging others to become involved and vocal in the national dialogue around healthcare reform.  Ascension Health believes that healthcare reform should be the nation's number one domestic policy priority.

“St.Vincent Health is committed to responding to the healthcare needs of those we serve; particularly those who are poor and vulnerable,” said Vincent C. Caponi, CEO of St.Vincent Health.  “For 127 years, it has been our mission to ensure that we provide quality, holistic care to people regardless of their ability to pay.  We understand the significance of Cover the Uninsured Week, and see this as a perfect opportunity to address these concerns with public officials.”

During their visit to Capitol Hill, St.Vincent Health officials met with the offices of Senators Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar, and the offices of Representatives Dan Burton, Steve Buyer, Andre Carson, Joe Donnelly, Brad Ellsworth, Baron Hill and Mike Pence.
