INDIANAPOLIS – St.Vincent Health CEO, Vincent C. Caponi, was recently honored by Indiana Secretary of State, Todd Rokita, for the faith-based organization's statewide nonpartisan campaign to register Hoosiers to vote for this past election.
Caponi's leadership with the My Voice, My Vote campaign earned him the Honorary Secretary of State Award.
The Secretary of State's Office partnered with more than 100 corporations, non-profits and other Indiana organizations to engage and educate employees prior to the 2008 general election. St.Vincent Health's ambitious campaign registered Hoosiers to vote, educated the state on absentee balloting, and ensured that citizens had access to the appropriate resources needed to vote.
"While all corporations showed a tremendous commitment to helping achieve what was ultimately a hugely successful process, the best example of extending that outreach into the communities it serves was the St.Vincent Health My Voice, My Vote campaign," said Secretary Rokita. "A respected organization like St.Vincent Health can provide a powerful influence in our communities. I hope even more Indiana organizations will follow St.Vincent Health’s lead as we prepare our citizens for future elections."
As one of Indiana's largest employers, St.Vincent Health challenged Hoosiers in all 92 counties to participate in the political process, learn about candidates and top local and national issues. Along with Secretary Rokita, the health care system produced a new voter registration public service announcement and hosted local voter registration events for citizens at each of its 18 health facilities across the state.
Volunteers of the My Voice, My Vote campaign registered approximately 400 Hoosiers at St.Vincent Health hospitals in Indianapolis, Carmel, Anderson, Kokomo, Lafayette, Frankfort, Elwood, Brazil, Williamsport, Winchester and North Vernon.
