INDIANAPOLIS – Three nurses were recently recognized for demonstrating the highest standard of practice by earning the St.Vincent Professional Nursing Recognition Award (PNRA).

The three award recipients are: Andrea Baysinger, Christine Herr and Kristy Umana.
Andrea Baysinger, BSN, RN, Nursing Administration at St.Vincent Clay Hospital (Brazil, Ind.), is a clinical and community education coordinator responsible for orientation, lunch and learns, Spiritually Enriching Education and Development (SEED), Activity Administration and critical thinking classes.
Christine Herr, RN, CNOR, works out of St.Vincent Carmel Hospital in the Surgery Department, and has more than 34 years of working experience in six different states and eight different operating rooms. Her experience also includes a key role in opening a new hospital and serving on multiple committees.
Kristy Umana, RN, CDE, St.Vincent Diabetes Center in Indianapolis, cares for patients on a daily basis ranging in age from 9 months to 82-years old. Her accomplishments include developing a Nursing Portal Diabetes Web site, and volunteering at community health fairs.
The purpose of the PNRA award is to advance the interest in promoting professional nursing and award excellence in professional nursing practice. The award also aims to demonstrate the high value placed on the attributes of clinical competence, role development, clinical leadership and team building.
“The PNRA is a true celebration of professional nursing,” said Theresa Anderson, chief nursing officer of St.Vincent Seton Hospital Indianapolis and co-chair of PNRA. “Nurses are nominated by their peers and are reviewed anonymously for their leadership, role and professional practice. Not only are these individuals gifted in their occupation, but they also demonstrate a commitment to our Core Values, community service and professional behaviors beyond their regular work.”
Each award recipient has demonstrated her accomplishments and commitments both in and outside of work. The nurses donate their time and energy to numerous community, health, education and volunteer initiatives in their neighborhoods.
The faith-based health provider started the Professional Nursing Award as a corporate commitment to the practice of professional nursing. The first award was presented in May 1993 during National Nurses Week. Five awards were presented: management, education and three in clinical practice. Today, the awards are divided into clinical and non-clinical practice.
