The information herein applies to the 2010 enrollment. An application is available at the bottom of the "Admission/Selection" page.
A Radiologic Technologist, or Radiographer, is a highly trained and licensed individual who specializes in producing radiographic images of the human body for medical purposes. Radiographs produced by Radiographers are used by physicians to diagnose and treat illness and injury to the human body.
Radiographers work in a variety of areas of Medical Imaging including general radiography, fluoroscopy, surgical radiography, trauma radiography, and pediatric radiography. With additional training and education, radiographers also perform computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET), mammography, radiation oncology, and angiography / interventional exams. Radiographers with advanced degrees may also work in hospital management, education, or sales / marketing. Radiographers also work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, physician offices, and mobile units. To learn more about radiography, visit ASRT.org.
Program Overview
St. Vincent Health / St. Joseph Hospital Radiography Program is a twenty-two month, full-time program. Individuals interested in the program must submit an application to be considered for acceptance into the program. Applications are accepted only from November through January of each year. If selected, classes begin in August, with graduation occurring 22 months later in June. Since the program has limited student capacity, selection into the program is competitive. Not every applicant who applies to the program will be selected. To learn more about the selection process, see Admissions / Selection link on the left. Application documents can also be printed from that section.
The program consists of both intensive classroom education and hands-on clinical training. Enrolled students are engaged in clinical or classroom activities on-site five days per week. To learn more about the program’s curriculum, refer to the Academic / Curriculum section herein. All classroom education and clinical training is conducted within the St. Vincent Health system. To learn more about St Vincent Health, refer to the St Vincent Health and Hospitals link on the left.
Accreditation
The Radiography Program is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiological Sciences. Individuals can learn more about the Joint Review Committee by visiting http://www.jrcert.org/cert/View.jsp?pid=2432. The JRCERT contact information is:

Upon graduation from the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists board examination. To learn more about the ARRT examination, visit www.ARRT.org. Once an applicant successfully passes the ARRT examination, he/she can apply to the Indiana State Department of Health for a Radiation Operator general license, which is required by Indiana state regulations to work as a radiographer in Indiana.
Mission Statement
Our Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives and health delivery status of our students, the people we serve, and the community. This is accomplished through a commitment of excellence by our faculty and staff, Advisory Board, and the sponsoring institutions in the delivery of quality training and education opportunities in radiological sciences. We will display compassion and dignity to all. Our paradigms will be open to all aspects of education that do not violate the Mission or Core Values of our sponsoring and affiliated institutions.
Vision Statement
Our Vision is to become a national model for enterprise-wide, hospital-based radiography education. We envision a system-wide radiography program dedicated to meeting the human resource needs of the affiliating St. Vincent Health organizations and their respective communities. We envision a program that offers an expansive approach to radiography education using state of the art technology while providing students with a wide range of clinical experiences in contrasting settings. This Vision is accomplished with vigor, enthusiasm, and encouragement while ever mindful of the need to be good stewards of our resources.
Program Goals and Assessment
The program is committed to the highest quality of education and training possible within reasonably established resources. To that end, the program has established a comprehensive Assessment Plan designed to monitor program quality, promote performance improvement, and correct identified deficiencies. The Assessment Plan is based on the annual goals listed below and will culminate with the publishing of an Annual Report of Program Effectiveness following each academic year. Contact the Program Director to obtain a copy of the program’s Assessment Plan.
- Students will demonstrate learning across the continuum of the radiography curriculum.
- Students will demonstrate and provide quality patient care.
- The program will prepare students to challenge the ARRT credentialing exam.
- The program will maintain a positive learning environment.
- The program will demonstrate a positive effect on the community.
