Surgery is a truly challenging and exciting career choice. At St. Vincent, perioperative nurses are recognized and appreciated for their daily contributions and dedication to their career in surgical specialties.
St.Vincent’s Surgery Department offers a challenging opportunity for nurses to expand their field of nursing through the Surgery Nurse Intern Program. It is a 6-month program that begins in June/July and January each year. Experienced Registered Nurses and Graduate Nurses who have completed a perioperative elective or worked as a student nurse are welcome to apply.
The internship includes didactic classes, observations, labs, and orientation to the Instrument Room and Supply Room that progresses to learning the duties of the scrub at the field. Interns then begin to circulate in the surgery suites with their nurse preceptor rotating to learn specialties and differences for each team. Weekly roundtable meetings are conducted to debrief and learn from one another’s experiences.
This is a paid internship requiring an 18-month work pay back agreement to the surgery department.
