As part of our mission we pride ourselves in providing radiological service that is timely, efficient and of the highest quality;  while we maintain the rights, privacy and dignity of all our patients.

All of our imaging department procedures are read by Board Certified and Specialty Board Certified Radiologists.

Diagnostic Radiology (this is the only exam that does not need to be scheduled)

Diagnostic Radiology is used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury. Registered/Licensed Radiologic Technologists and Echo/Vascular Technologist perform approximately 21,000 procedures each year. A variety of imaging services includes:

  • General radiography (x-rays of the bones, chest and internal organs)
  • Digital Fluoroscopy (ugi, barium enema, esophagram)
  • Portable Radiology
  • Surgical cases

Interventional Radiology
These are specialized x-ray examinations performed by the Radiologist with the assistance of registered technologists. These exams are performed using state-of-the-art digital imaging techniques and equipment with contrast enhancements.

  • PICC Lines (permanent catheter placed for use of medication administration)
  • Myelography (special spine exam)
  • Arthrography ( special shoulder/hip/knee exam)

Mammography
Breast health services are provided from Routine mammogram to major breast imaging procedures. Licensed and registered technologists perform approximately 2,000 exams per year. Mammograms are read by board-certified radiologist. The American College of Radiology’s mammography accreditation program certifies this service, as does the Indiana State Department of Health and federal government under the Mammography Quality of Standards Act. Services include:

  • Routine Mammography
Special reduced rates are offered to patients in May, June & October annually.
Low income programs are also available from St. Vincent:
    - Foundation State Breast Cancer
    - Cervical Cancer Program
  • Diagnostic Mammography
  • Breast ultrasounds to supplement mammography images when warranted
  • Breast needle localizations – used to “mark” a suspicious area for the surgeon
  • Stereotactic core or ultrasound-guided core biopsy – used to make a specific diagnosis
  • Breast cyst aspiration with ultrasound guidance

MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging
MRI is sectional images of the body which are obtained by a strong magnet, radio waves and computer. During the procedure, patients are made comfortable by communication with the technologist, listening to music of their choice, and circulation of air provided throughout the exam. MRI services include all body parts (spine, head, extremity, abdomen, pelvis). Registered licensed technologists perform approximately 1,000 procedures each year.

Diagnostic Ultrasound
In this procedure, a machine is used to produce sound waves that are transmitted through a hand-held transducer into the body. The sound waves are reflected and returned to the transducer and captured to produce images. Ultrasound technologist performs these studies.

Areas imaged:

  • Thyroid, Thyroid Biopsies
  • Abdomen (pancreas, liver, aorta, gallbladder, spleen and kidneys)
  • Uterus & Ovaries
  • Breast, Breast Biopsies
  • OB

Vascular Ultrasound/Echocardiology
In this procedure, a machine is used to produce sound waves that are transmitted through a hand-held transducer into the body. The sound waves are reflected and returned to the transducer and captured to produce images. Patients are evaluated for circulation problems in neck, upper and lower extremities and heart problems.  A Licensed/Certified Vascular Ultrasound technologist/Echocardiographer performs these studies.

Areas imaged:

  • Peripheral arteries and veins
  • Carotid /Vertebral arteries
  • Evaluation for DVT(Deep Venous Thrombosis)
  • Echocardiograms(evaluation of the heart) age 13 and up

CT Scanning
A computerized x-ray unit takes cross-sectional pictures of the anatomy for this procedure. The patient moves in and out of a circular/donut shaped opening. The machine is not enclosed. Anatomy that is scanned includes: head/brain, abdomen, extremities upper and lower, chest, facial, pelvic, sinuses with and without contrast administration.

Bone Densitometry
A bone density test allows for accurate assessment of the bones mineral density. This is a simple noninvasive procedure done by the CT scanner. Measurements of the Hip and Spine are taken to diagnose Osteopenia, Osteoporosis and to evaluate patients receiving treatment for Osteoporsis.
