Saint John’s Continuing Care Center combines the skilled care of a hospital with a freedom of movement and recreational activities not ordinarily enjoyed in such a facility. Although the Continuing Care Center is within Saint John’s Medical Center, it is licensed as a freestanding, skilled, extended-care facility. The unit is ideal for persons recuperating from surgery, illness or injury-persons who no longer need full hospitalization, but who are not yet ready to return to a less structured environment.
The Continuing Care Center staff emphasizes preparing the patient to return home through rehabilitation therapy—usually with the same therapist he or she had while in the hospital. Residents have easy access to Saint John’s rehabilitation services, including physical and occupational therapies, speech pathology, audiology testing, and respiratory therapy.
Friends and relatives are free to visit on an open basis. Residents are encouraged to wear their own clothing as their condition improves. They may also bring in personal items to make their rooms more homelike.
The Continuing Care Center has provider status through Medicare and Blue Cross, is licensed by the State Board of Health, and accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
