Eye Care Services at St.Vincent

The vibrant colors of a beautiful painting. The infectious smile of a loved one. The car that suddenly darts into traffic. These are just a few of the things that good vision allows us to see. Protecting that vision – and correcting it when necessary – are not things that should be taken lightly.

The St.Vincent-affiliated ophthalmologists, also known as Eye M.D.s, are dedicated to helping you see clearly. Eye M.D.s are medical doctors specially trained in all aspects of eye care, including prevention, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of eye conditions and diseases.

In addition to four years of medical school and one year of internship, every Eye M.D. completes a minimum of three years of hospital-based residency training in ophthalmology.  Their medical training makes them keenly aware of the connection between vision difficulties and other diseases and disorders of the body, including diabetes and high blood pressure.

Our Eye M.D.s provide a full range of eye care, from prescribing glasses and contact lenses to performing complex and delicate eye surgery for people of all ages. Many of our Eye M.D.s have additional specialized training in certain areas of ophthalmology, such as the treatment of complex retinal disorders, glaucoma, corneal diseases, pediatric eye disorders or plastic surgery.

In addition, St.Vincent-affiliated ophthalmologists provide around-the-clock coverage in the Emergency Department for eye injuries resulting from auto accidents, falls or other traumatic events and are available for in-hospital consultation for eye problems in the complex mix of medical and surgical patients.
