Grant Partnerships
The Partners Recruiting Opportunities for Minority Student Education, or PROMiSE project, is a collaborative effort involving the Indiana State Department of Health Office of Minority Health (SOMH), the Indiana Area Health Education Center (IN-AHEC), the Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC), as well as other state and regional partners.
The project seeks to facilitate the elimination of health disparities such as asthma, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, infant mortality, and mental illness, particularly among minority populations, by using an innovative strategy: providing opportunities for high school and college age students to learn more about and successfully pursue health care careers. This plan is based on findings that the lack of practicing minority health professionals is a significant public health issue in working towards the elimination of these disparities.
