Research
In the world of cancer, one thing is for certain — things change. Research continues to provide newer, better ways of treating cancer, allowing more people to earn the title “cancer survivor.” To give our patients the best chance at survival, St.Vincent is committed to providing the best and most current cancer treatment options available.
St.Vincent is the only Indiana hospital selected by the National Cancer Institute to participate in the pilot phase of the Community Cancer Centers Program, a new program that coordinates state-of-the-art cancer care in community hospitals across the United States. This means St.Vincent is helping to define the latest innovations in cancer care, and has contact with the most prestigious cancer centers in the world. At any given time, St.Vincent is involved in approximately 60 clinical trials that help advance cancer treatment and research, as well as offer patients new hope.
In addition to offering clinical trials and aggressive treatment for a wide variety of cancers, St.Vincent is leading new programs that emphasize cancer-prevention strategies for breast and gynecological cancers. Women who are considered “high-risk” for developing such cancers are provided a very personal, individualized care plan specifically created for their unique situation. These women receive on-going counseling and comprehensive information, preventative strategies and tools, and in some cases, drug therapies, to help them stay healthy.
One thing that doesn’t change in the world of cancer is a patient’s need for compassionate care. At St.Vincent, we believe in holistic care that treats the mind, body and spirit. That’s why we have designed St.Vincent Oncology Services to be responsive not only to a patient’s medical needs, but also to their mental and spiritual needs.
