Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, except for non-melanoma skin cancers. According to the American Cancer Society, the chance of developing invasive breast cancer at some time in a woman’s life is about 1 in 8 (13% of women). It is estimated that in 2007 about 178,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women in the United States. About 40,060 of these cases will result in death. St.Vincent Health takes these numbers seriously and realizes the value of early detection and education.
While breast cancer is by far the most notable disease, there are numerous conditions and benign diseases that affect the breast. Fibroadenoma, Fibrocystic Change (lumpy breast), Ductal Papillomas, Mammary Duct Ectasia and Galactocele often require medical attention.
The expert physicians at St.Vincent Health provide a full spectrum of clinical and support services, from screening and diagnosis to treatment and counseling.
