Saint John’s offers comprehensive diagnostic cardiology procedures, a professional cardiac rehabilitation program, Congestive Heart Failure Clinic, and access to skilled cardiologists. Services available include cardiac catheterization, electrocardiograms (EKGs); ambulatory electrocardiograms (Holter Monitor); echocardiograms with doppler ultrasound; pediatric echocardiograms; transesophageal echocardiograms; treadmill stress tests; and peripheral vascular studies.

Saint John’s Cardiac Catheterization has the area’s only digital cardiac angiography equipment. Digital enhancement is the newest method of imaging for cardiac catheterization. This state-of-the-art technology greatly enhances cardiac care for our patients.

Cardiac angiography is a high-performance technology which uses X-rays to allow physicians to view live, motion pictures of blood flow through the arteries. It is used to evaluate patients prior to certain treatments for cardiovascular diseases, for pre-operative evaluation of coronary arteries, and post-operative evaluation of coronary artery bypass surgery.

Center for Cardiac and Pulmonary Health is located in Saint John’s Medical Arts Building. The Cardiac Rehabilitation program is provided from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Center for Cardiac and Pulmonary Health accepts patients by physician referral only.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation program provides rehabilitative and preventative cardiovascular education and conditioning to patients under the intensive surveillance of health care professionals. The program includes a comprehensive outpatient phase with emphasis on patient education, a structured program of ECG monitored exercise, risk factor counseling and periodic stress evaluations providing the basis for the patient’s individualized exercise prescriptions.

Objectives of the Center for Cardiac and Pulmonary Health include helping individuals to understand their disease and course of treatment, increasing physical stamina, and helping them make necessary adjustments in their social and professional lives. The program is structured to meet an individual’s needs.

A new Modified Cardiac Rehabilitation program has been developed to meet the needs of self-pay patients who want to reduce the chance of later heart problems. The modified program provides the same basic risk factor education as the standard program. The number of monitored exercise sessions is reduced when appropriate.

A six-week preventative program is designed for those patients who exhibit one or more cardiovascular risk factors or who have chronic medical conditions which can be improved through regular physical activity, education, and/or risk factor modification. Some patients who may benefit from this program include diabetics, arthritics, overweight individuals, those suffering from mild depression, and those with a family history of these medical problems.

Saint John’s Congestive Heart Failure program focuses on maximizing the medical management of patients who have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure to help improve their quality of life. Patients are evaluated weekly to ensure that their medications are appropriate and to check for early signs of worsening conditions. Patients are also given helpful education and support to help prevent multiple admissions.
