Pediatric Outpatient Services
Outpatient services meet the needs of local children and their families by providing occupational, physical and speech therapy as well as clinics for cerebral palsy, rehabilitation, spasticity, cranio facial anomalies and cleft palate, and feeding disorders.
Occupational Therapy
This program improves fine motor skills, cognitive and sensory integration, socialization and oral motor skills. Occupational therapists can provide orthotics (mechanical appliances for orthopedic use) and/or splints when appropriate. A primary goal of occupational therapy is to increase independence in activities of daily living, which for a child means play or school life. Therapists also specialize in Neuro Development Training (NDT), positioning and computer access.

Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy builds strength, balance and coordination for gross motor activities. Therapists are trained in serial casting and orthotics. Children work on independent movement. Therapists specialize in the areas of: NDT, serial casting, Transelectrical Stimulation (TES), hippotherapy, wound care and orthotics.
Speech-Language Pathology
Speech therapy improves language and oral motor skills for better communication and safe swallowing. Therapists also evaluate and treat feeding augmentative communication, oral motor, feeding and swallowing, behavior modification, PDD/Autism, language development, hearing impairment, Apraxia, cleft palate, head injury, trachs and vents and articulation.
Audiology
Audiology evaluates children to determine their ability to hear. Treatment may include providing hearing aids and cochlear implants. Specialty areas include developmental delays, cochlear implants, hearing impairment, craniofacial abnormalities and cleft palate.
Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic Therapy allows therapists to address balance and strength issues in an environment that promotes relaxation and greater coordination. Aquatic therapy is often used in conjunction with other therapies to provide an effective overall treatment plan. Aquatic therapy is offered at 1185 West Carmel Drive at the Old Meridian Professional Building.
Hippotherapy
The hippotherapy program utilizes a horse to initiate speech, decrease tone, increase strength and coordination and to provide motivation. Physical, speech and occupational therapists can use hippotherapy as a part of an overall treatment plan for children with special needs. Hippotherapy is offered at TheraPlay at 96th and Township Line Road. It is a covered, year-round facility with treatment areas that are used right after the child dismounts to capitalize on the beneficial effects.
