Civic Involvement and Governance

The institutions, laws, policies, associations and patterns by which people govern themselves, participate in public affairs and contribute to an informed citizenry.

Ascension Health

A network of more than 65 acute care hospitals and 90 other health care facilities located in 15 states and The District of Columbia. As a member of Ascension Health, St.Vincent associates are called by God to serve the sick and challenged to search out the poorest and most vulnerable and to be "present where others will not go."

St.Vincent Health

St.Vincent Health is a nonprofit, spiritually centered healthcare system sponsored by Ascension Health, with a mission to improve the lives and health of Indiana residents through a continuum of holistic and high quality healthcare services. Founding members of St.Vincent Health are St.Vincent Hospital & Health Services-Indianapolis and St. Joseph Hospital & Health Center-Kokomo. The institutions that comprise St.Vincent Health share compatible but different cultures and common core values. All are committed to working for a healthier society, establishing strong partnerships with physicians, healthcare professionals and communities and caring for the sick and poor.

Community Health Assessments

Facilities that make up St.Vincent Health regard community collaboration as central to the process of truly understanding local health needs, gaining buy-in and quality service delivery. Each facility undertakes a periodic assessment of community needs, the results of which are then incorporated into annual strategic and operational plans.

Neighborhood Involvement

Because St.Vincent-Indianapolis is located in the Crooked Creek neighborhood, special partnerships between the hospital and local groups such as Crooked Creek Multi-Service Center, Crooked Creek PLUS, Pike and Washington Township Schools, churches and citizen groups have been formed to address issues and mobilize resources for the common good. St.Vincent actively participates in community fairs, town hall meetings, conducted health and social service assessments and advocates for the attention of policymakers and funders in an effort to improve the area's overall quality-of-life.
