Social Environment

Jubilee Partnership

St.Vincent partners with Tabernacle Presbyterian Church to operate a center-city resource center aimed at nurturing leadership and improving the health, social, spiritual, economic and emotional vitality of the neighborhood. Programs offered or under development at Jubilee include: early childhood education (The Oaks Academy), health clinics, before and after-school programs, cultural and recreational activities, skill development programs, child care and pastoral services.

Social Services

St.Vincent social workers assist grieving needy families coping with injury, illness and a lack of resources. They help ease the burdens of patients and families as they connect patients and families with government insurance programs, community rehabilitation and crisis intervention services.

Communication and Cultural Understanding

In response to a growing immigrant population, programs to improve communication and understanding among people from diverse cultures have been added to the growing list of social services available at St.Vincent. Interpreters are trained to facilitate understanding between patients and caregivers. Language courses for associates and regular participation in community cultural events have contributed to a growing appreciation of diversity within central Indiana.

B.A.B.E. Store (Beds and Britches, Etc.)

A community-based program for women and their babies where coupons from participating distributors can be redeemed for new and used clothing, infant formula, diapers and other supplies.

Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP)

A partnership between St.Vincent and the Indiana Department of Insurance to train volunteer counselors to answer seniors' questions regarding Medicare, Medicare Supplements, HMOs, Managed Care Plans, Medicaid and long-term care programs. The SHIIP office at St.Vincent Hospital is open for appointments four half-days each week.

Medicaid/Hoosier Healthwise Outreach

St.Vincent social workers team with community agencies to educate the public about Hoosier Healthwise, Medicaid and other government funded health insurance programs and expedite the enrolment of eligible individuals and families.

Hope for the Holidays

St.Vincent associates "adopt" needy patients and share their blessings so that all may experience joy during the holiday season.
