The Summer Academy

The St.Vincent Unity Development Center (UDC) has partnered with 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, Inc. to provide the Summer Academy to children in K-6th grades who reside in Marion County. The Academy prides itself on offering participants educational, cultural and leisure activities to which they may not otherwise be exposed. Some activities include reading and math enhancement, field trips, community service projects and cultural activities. Over 130 children attend the eight week program, which runs from mid-June until the end of July.

The Summer Academy is also a proud participant in Project SEED, a nonprofit math consulting organization whose goal is to prepare minority and educationally disadvantaged youth to excel in mathematics. Indianapolis is one of only seven cities nationwide to offer this program. Project SEED consultants visit students in grades 4th – 6th for one hour each morning over a six day period where they work to improve math skills.
