What is the ERASE Speakers Bureau?

 

The ERASE Speakers Bureau is pleased to provide guest speakers, free of charge, for your school, sports organization, church or synagogue, business, or civics organization, television or radio programming. We can tailor discussion to suite your group's interest or to focus on topics of interest relating to the current health environment. Examples of just some of our past topics include the following presentations.

Introduction to the Emergency Department
Target Audience: (Grades K-3)


Description: A hands-on interactive program where classes visit the ER, learn about the Emergency Department. The children get to splint, listen to their hearts and lung, learn about X-ray equipment, EKG, and a host of other emergency equipment, and how it relates to the human body.

Introduction to Trauma and Injury Prevention
Target Audience: (Grades 9-12)


Description: A candid, entertaining, and sometimes graphic look at decision making that leads to injury, death and disability. This talk focus on those small choices can change our lives forever. This is a great education forum developed and presented by Dr. Gavin Inglis.

Introduction to Emergency Medicine, Health Care and the Human Body
Target Audience: (Grades K-6)


Description: A highly entertaining look at the human body for children of grade school ages. This is a great school assembly discussion developed and presented by Dr. Gavin Inglis.

Introduction to the Quiet Room
Target Audience: At- risk teenagers (prior drug or alcohol problems, school truancy etc.)


Description: This is a somewhat graphic, eye-opening discussion on drug and alcohol related death, date rape and sexual abuse, suicide and teen pregnancy. It is an emotional discussion on the process that leads to a visit to the quiet room (the room that is set aside in most ER's to tell the family about the death of a loved one.) This discussion is best in a small group setting (less than 20 students, counselors must be in attendance, parental approval is suggested).

Child First-Aide, Assessing the Real Risks to Our Children
Target Audience: (Teachers and Educators, School Nurses, School Volunteers)


Description: An excellent talk that can be used for continuing education or in-service instruction for your school. This talk looks at basic first-aide, injury prevention, identifying child abuse and neglect in the school setting, how to seek protective care for the child, and when a child should be taken to the ER.

Introduction to Sports Safety and First-Aid for Athletes
Target Audience: (Coaches, Sports Organization)


Description: A look at sports injury prevention, training and flexibility, how to treat the ill or injured athlete, prevention of heat stroke, and a look at social factors affecting the young athlete.

Basic Child CPR and First-Aid
Target Audience: Parents and Grandparents, Sitters, Educators

 

Description: Instruction in basic child first aide and injury prevention. This talk may be associated with a small registration fee to cover equipment costs and would prefer a minimum of 30 participants and a maximum of 200.

Target Audience: Local or regional television, radio, or group newsletter:

 

Description: Brief interviews with local health care providers on an unlimited number of health-related topics such as:

  • Falls caused by Ice
  • Heat Stroke and Heat Exhaustion, Hypothermia
  • Lightning Injuries
  • Poisonings
  • West Nile virus and other infectious diseases
  • Food Poisoning
  • Halloween, Fourth of July, and Holiday safety
  • Bio-terrorism
  • When to go to the ER
  • Lawn and Garden Safety
  • Risks of Heart Attacks and Strokes
