Infection Control

Your hospice team members will take precautions against infection when providing care for your loved one. These techniques are called “Universal Precautions” and include washing hands before and after patient contact, wearing gloves when likely to touch body substances or mucus membranes, wearing gowns or aprons if clothing is likely to be soiled, and wearing a mask or goggles if splashing with body fluids is likely.

It is also important to avoid contact with blood. Used syringes or needles should be placed in the rigid plastic container provided by hospice. Do not bend, break or re-cap needles. Wear gloves when dealing with soiled or bloody items. Soiled items may be bagged and discarded with your household trash.
