The following classes are available to assist the expectant mother and her family in preparing for the baby’s birth and care.

Prenatal
In this five-week course, enrollees learn about prenatal development, prenatal and postnatal exercises, diet and nutrition, labor and delivery, breast and bottle feeding, newborn characteristics, and going home with a baby. Participants should attend after the fifth month of pregnancy. This course is free. A new one-day class also is now available.  Regular sessions are 7 to 9 p.m. and begin on the following dates:

Caesarean Section

This free one-session class prepares the patient and family for Caesarean Section, including pre- and post-operative expectations.

Sibling Classes
Sibling Classes include future brothers and sisters in the birth experience. Siblings learn what taking care of a new baby will mean for the family. Special emphasis is placed on assuring them that Mom and Dad will have love enough to share with them as well as the new baby. This is a free one-time class.

Grandparents
Grandparents can get involved through a class of their own which brings them up to date on new trends in family centered maternity and infant care. This free class meets one time.

In addition to the classes mentioned above, which help the expectant mother and family prepare for the birth of their child, a variety of training takes place at the Birthing Center after a child is born.

Obstetric classes are part of the full range of services provided by Saint John’s Birthing Center.
