The birth of a baby is expected to be a joyful time. However, in the pregnancy and postpartum period, between 10 - 20% of women experience a major depression or anxiety disorder that can have negative, long lasting consequences for both the mother and baby. St.Vincent offers a variety of programs and services to support women (and their families) affected by postpartum mood disorders. Services are open to the community at large.
Women can self refer or can be referred by their physician, family or friends.
St.Vincent Women's Hospital social workers provide postpartum mood disorder phone assessments, support, education and resources. Information packets containing articles, resources and information about St.Vincent's weekly postpartum mood disorder support group are sent directly to your home. Women may also be referred to St.Vincent Stress Center, which provides outpatient therapy, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and inpatient programs. St.Vincent Women's Hospital offers a free, weekly postpartum mood disorder support group (facilitated by a social worker).
