Interacting With Your Primary Care Physician

Most of us have a physician we select for regular checkups, the occasional bout of flu and the ailments that arise in any lifetime.  In recent years, the term 'primary care physician' has emerged to describe that all purpose doctor who helps you no matter what the problem may be.

Typically, your primary care physician has some responsibility for coordinating your care. He or she may be the only one who knows all of your medical history. He or she may be the one who maintains a complete list of medications you have taken and any reactions or side effects you have had in the past. That physician will really appreciate knowing that you are seeking or engaged in mental health treatment. He or she will need to know any medications you are on and any major stress affecting you. It will truly help improve your care to keep your doctor 'in the loop'.
