Antepartum Testing
Antepartum testing (before birth) is used in high-risk pregnancies to evaluate the baby’s health. Testing provided includes:
Nonstress testing, in which monitors are placed on the maternal abdomen to record fetal heart rate and uterine activity.
Fetal biophysical profile, which uses ultrasound to evaluate the fetus for movement, muscle tone, breathing activity and amniotic fluid volume.
The tests may be used separately or in combination depending on the clinical situation.
