Stroke is the nation’s third leading cause of death. Those who survive a stroke are subject to more serious long-term disabilities than with any other disease. In all, stroke affects about 700,000 Americans each year. It can happen at any age, though nearly three-quarters of all strokes occur in people over the age of 65. The risk of having a stroke more than doubles with each decade after age 55.

Are you at risk? Is someone you know at risk? Knowing the risks, the signs and the right steps to take in an emergency can help save a life—maybe even your own. That’s why we are here to help. St.Vincent was the first Central Indiana hospital accredited as a primary stroke center, and we offer our patients an unparalleled stroke program that includes:

  • Emergency interventions
  • Surgical and non-surgical treatments
  • Extensive rehabilitation services
  • Skilled Rapid Response Team, including trained emergency department personnel
  • Aggressive treatment using the most advanced clot-dissolving drugs and clot-removing procedures
  • Neurology and neurosurgery coverage 24/7
  • Neuroscience nurses specializing in the care of stroke patients
  • Acute stroke unit with an integrated rehabilitation department
