State of the Art Care

St.Vincent Thoracic Oncology Program offers the most advanced care available for the treatment of suspected or known tumors of the chest, performing more surgeries for cancers of the chest than any other hospital in the state.

We offer state of the art procedures for the diagnosis  and treatment of suspected or known cancers of the chest, including advanced methods of pain management; minimally invasive chest surgery including robotically performed procedures; laser bronchoscopy; esophageal and airway stenting; new forms of radiation therapy; the most advanced chemotherapy available in the Midwest; and comprehensive hospice care.

DaVinci Robotic Surgery System
Working with our partner CorVasc, the St.Vincent Thoracic Oncology Program is the only facility in Indiana and only one of four programs in the nation to use the DaVinci Robotic Surgery System for thymectomy (removal of the thymus gland) and invasive mediastinal tumor excision.

In fact, St.Vincent Thoracic Oncology Program physicians have performed more of these procedures than any other program in the country. The DaVinci procedure can reduce inpatient recovery time by as much as five days over traditional surgery.

Minimally Invasive Surgeries
In addition to the DaVinci procedure, we offer minimally invasive surgery for cancers of the chest and were the first in the state to perform minimally invasive lobectomies for lung cancer. Minimally invasive surgery results in smaller incisions, less pain and a quicker return to work or other daily activities.

Novalis Radiation
Many patients receiving radiation as part of their treatment are treated with the Novalis Shaped Beam radiation device, which concentrates six weeks of radiation treatments into just three days. The improved accuracy of the delivery of the radiation with the Novalis system not only makes concentrated treatment possible, but can greatly reduce the side effects of radiation.

Clinical Trials
The St.Vincent Thoracic Oncology Program offers patients access to the most current clinical trials for treatment of cancers of the chest. For more information about trials currently underway, please contact us at (317) 338-LUNG (5864).
