St.Vincent Head and Neck Tumor Clinic
The St.Vincent Head and Neck Tumor Clinic diagnoses and treats patients with head and neck cancers using a variety of therapies, including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. With the incidence of head and neck cancer continuing to increase, the physical well being and survival of head and neck cancer patients can significantly be enhanced when various disciplines and treatment options are integrated at one place. The St.Vincent Head and Neck Tumor Clinic offers just that to cancer patients.
Prostate Seed Implant Program
This outpatient program offers men diagnosed with prostate cancer another option in treatment: prostate seed implant. A radiation oncologist, urologist and physicist are specially trained to provide the treatment, where tiny seeds or pellets containing radioactive medication are implanted directly in the middle of the cancer to give off low-level radiation continuously for about one year.
Stereotactic Radiosurgery
Stereotactic radiosurgery delivers radiation therapy to cancerous cells and provides improved management of brain tumors. The treatment is used in situations where normal surgery is not possible. The care team consists of a neurosurgeon, neuroradiologist and radiation oncologist.
Total Body Irradiation
Total body irradiation is used with bone marrow transplant procedures. A highly specialized team – comprised of a radiation oncologist, medical physicist, radiation therapist and nurse – perform the innovative procedure and provide patient care.
3-D Conformal Treatment Planning
3-D conformal treatment – highly sophisticated computer technology that aids in the targeting of radiation therapy – enhances the efficacy of radiotherapy and minimizes the damage to healthy tissue. The radiation oncologist is able to view 3-D images and to manipulate the image during the course of treatment. |
