Saint John’s Enterostomal Therapy provides direct and supportive care to ostomates in the hospital, confined to home, or on an outpatient basis. These services include pre- and post-operative teaching, physician-requested stoma siting, supply and equipment recommendations, and assistance in management of colostomies, ileostomies and urinary diversions.
The enterostomal therapist also is available for assistance in the management of wounds including pressure ulcers, stasis ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and in the containment and odor control of draining wounds and fistulas.
The third area an enterostomal therapist can be of assistance is in the management of urinary and fecal incontinence.
As a member of the Madison County Chapter of the United Ostomy Association, the enterostomal therapist attends meetings on a regular basis and helps the new ostomate and family gain a wider awareness of available support. A free clinic is offered each April to ostomates. |
