The Acute Physical Rehabilitation Center at St.Joseph Hospital is dedicated to helping people get past the hurdles of recovery and back to their lives, work, family, active retirement and independent living.

The Acute Physical Rehab Center is designed to help you regain your highest level of function and independence. We are dedicated to providing the care necessary to meet your medical, physical, psychological and social needs in an environment that promotes wellness, confidence and independence. Our program is a “comprehensive acute physical medical rehabilitation program,” where those who have suffered disabling illness or injury have the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

While in our hospital we encourage you to:

  • Wear comfortable sportswear – no more hospital gowns

  • Participate in daily care such as dressing and grooming

  • Join in individual and group leisure activities to help you resume normal activities

  • Eat meals in the dinning room with others in the program

  • Participate in an individualized therapy program

What should I bring to the Acute Physical Rehab Center?

We get dressed and participate in therapies and activities each day in the center; therefore, you should bring the following items:

  • Clothing (several changes of exercise clothing is a popular choice)

  • Comfortable, low heel-shoes

  • Bathrobe and slippers

  • Nightgown/Pajamas

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.

  • Grooming items such as shaving equipment, hair brushes and make-up

  • Glasses and/or hearing aids

  • Assistitive devices you currently use such as a walker or cane

We encourage you to bring items that will make your stay with us comfortable. Please refrain from bringing expensive or irreplaceable items such as jewelry or large sums of money.

Family and/or friends will need to launder your clothing for you while you are with us.

Can I have visitors?

Visits from family and friends are encouraged and their participation in your treatment and educational programs is recommended. St.Joseph Hospital does not have specific hospital visiting hours. However, you will be very busy in therapy sessions and rest periods are an essential part of our program. We respectfully request that visitors not interrupt your treatment schedule or rest breaks. We want you to receive the maximum benefit from the program.

Will my insurance pay for my treatment?

Medicare and most insurance plans pay for the rehabilitative services provided by the Acute Physical Rehab Center. Some insurance plans will also cover your co-payment responsibility. A representative from the hospital can answer any questions you and your family may have about your benefits and coverage.
